Broken Mirrors, Spilt Salt, And a Lifetime of Bad Luck

For as long as she can remember, Mallory has been synonymous with bad luck. Yes, you read that right—she’s not just unlucky; she is bad luck. With The Universe seemingly determined to bestow misfortune upon her and those around her, can she find a loophole to turn things around?

Belonging in an Ivy League but through a twist of misfortune, stuck in a community college pre-law program, Mallory is doing her best to minimize the misfortune she brings to those in close proximity. Her only haven is a group of gamers she befriended while playing Arcana Quest. This online camaraderie quickly morphed into real friendship, particularly with one standout friend—Valkyrie, to whom she confided her cursed luck.

When one of their friends suffers a particularly bad interaction with a threatening man, Valkyrie proposes an unconventional idea: Mallory should harness her bad luck to take down jerks on dating apps. It works like a charm—well, a broken one.

Mallory wrestles with the ethical implications of her actions while trying to balance her internship with an enigmatic personal injury lawyer, who seems immune to the torrent of disasters that follow her. Can she use her curse to deliver justice without spiraling into chaos? Or has she found herself a more dangerous way for her bad luck to bring her to ruin?

And Now For A Bit About Me

I'm a Boston born, Brooklyn based author, Ellie Martin McKinsey, with a background in theater as both a stage manager and actress. My time in theater not only exposed me to many colorful characters but also gave me a strong grasp on realistic, effective dialogue. Writing was never something I set out to do; it was more that I stumbled into it by accident after watching a television show and feeling like I could have written and utilized the characters better. As an avid lover of the performing arts, much of my inspiration comes from acting techniques and a vast array of media ranging from excellent to highly questionable quality. When not at my many day jobs or writing, I'm drinking tea, watching TV, or dancing wherever I can find space. My second novel, 'Broken Mirrors, Spilt Salt, and a Lifetime of Bad Luck,' published by Bombay Circle Press, is out now, and I'm already back at it, working on several new writing projects I can't wait to share. For more information and to explore my works, visit my author website, where you can find all the books by Ellie Martin Mckinsey.
